Between December 24th and January 2nd, the SSBC Biorepository will be open Monday through Friday for essential operations ONLY and will re-open for normal operations on January 2nd. If at all possible, biological specimens for submission to SSBC should NOT be collected and shipped between December 24th and January 2nd.

Should it be necessary to ship blood and/or CSF samples to the SSBC Biorepository during this period, please contact the SSBC staff at IU before December 24th by e-mailing ssbc@iu.edu, so that we can arrange to have staff available to process incoming samples.

Courier services may observe a different set of holidays. Please be sure to verify shipping dates with your courier prior to any holiday.

The SSBC Biorepository is not open for business on Saturday or Sunday; therefore, we ask that no samples be shipped on a Friday. We cannot guarantee the conditions in which the samples will be held by the shipping courier over the weekend. It is important to have plans in place for each type of sample to be held over the weekend prior to shipping. Please refer to the table below for how to handle samples drawn on a Friday.

When possible, please only ship frozen samples on Monday-Wednesday. There is always the potential for an unexpected shipping courier delay and by shipping Monday through Wednesday, there should be enough time for samples to be delivered before the weekend.
